The 2nd International Symposium on Wildlife Diseases Research Network (WDRN)

The second International Symposium on Wildlife Disease Research Network (WDRN) was held in Beijing, December 5-7, 2023. It was organized by ISZS, Institute of Zoology, CAS, and College of Ecology and Environment, Hainan University, sponsored by ISZS and the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS), and supported by CAST and CAS. More than 100 experts and scholars attended the conference. They were from 13 countries including China, UK, France, Tanzania, Colombia, New Zealand, Namibia, Belgium, Mongolia, South Korea, Mexico, Spain, and Madagascar.

The symposium consisted of 27 oral presentations and 2 panel discussions. It covered the topics about animal disease surveillance and monitoring, disease spillover mechanisms, vector control, molecular evolution of pathogen, cross species transmission, and parasite prevention and control. The scientists discussed the latest progress and development and future research direction. Two panel discussions were Rodent and Disease Control in Africa hosted by Professors Steven Belmain, Herwig Leirs, and Rhodes Makundi and Disease Control in Zoos hosted by Professors Yanchun Xu and Mengmeng Liu. This conference enhanced information exchanges in wildlife disease research worldwide, raised awareness of the concept of “One Health”, and promoted international cooperation between institutions and scientists. MOU was signed between ISZS and the Mongolian animal disease prevention and control department.

The 1st International Symposium on Wildlife Diseases Research Network (WDRN)

WDRN was held in Hainan University from June 26 to 28, 2023, the first ” International Symposium on Wildlife Diseases Research Network (WDRN)” in the International Academic Exchange Center of Hainan University. The goal of the conference is to establish the World Wildlife Disease Research Network (WDRN) in order to promote cooperation, and communication among different countries, departments, and disciplinaries; to enhance global wildlife disease monitoring and prevention capabilities; and to assist in the implementation of the global One Health concept and action plan.

The symposium is organized by the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS) and the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS), hosted by School of Ecology and Environment of Hainan University, assisted by Institute of Zoology of Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOZ/CAS), and supported by China Association of Science and Technology (CAST) and CAS. “One Belt One Road” Alliance of International Science Organization (ANSO), School of Global Health of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Integrative Zoology magazine, Animal Diseases magazine, Science in One Health magazine, and Wildlife Letters magazine provided help to the symposium. The symposium is mainly conducted offline, supplemented by online methods.
