Gender Equality in Science

Fostering inclusive environments where all genders thrive in scientific pursuit

Welcome to our page dedicated to gender equality initiatives at the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). Over the years, we have undertaken several significant projects aimed at addressing gender disparities within the scientific community.

One such endeavor was the Gender Gap project, conducted from 2017 to 2019 in collaboration with numerous scientific unions. This project culminated in the publication of a book, the details of which can be found below, offering valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities surrounding gender equality in science.

Furthermore, IUBS has played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Standing Committee on Gender Equality in Science (SCGES). Here, we showcase our ongoing collaboration with this committee, highlighting our joint efforts to promote gender equity and inclusivity.

In recognition of the importance of sustained action, we have also established the IUBS Working Group on Gender Equality, which subsequently evolved into the IUBS Committee for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities. This committee continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the biological sciences community.
