IUBS is pleased to co-sponsor the European Meeting for PhD Students in Evolutionary Biology (EMPSEB) 2026, taking place from 8–12 June 2026 in Oberwiesenthal, Germany.

EMPSEB is a unique, student-led conference organized by PhD candidates from institutions across Europe. Entirely volunteer-based, the meeting continues through a strong tradition of knowledge transfer, with each cohort of organizers passing on their experience to the next. This collaborative model fosters not only scientific exchange but also community-building among emerging researchers.

A defining feature of EMPSEB is that all participants deliver an oral presentation of their research, often for the first time. This provides early career researchers (ECRs) with a valuable opportunity to develop their communication skills and gain constructive feedback in a supportive and inclusive international environment.

Through its co-sponsorship, IUBS reaffirms its commitment to supporting early career scientists, promoting capacity building, and encouraging international collaboration in evolutionary biology and related fields.
