The IUBS is a founding member of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and contributes its scientific committees and programmes.
The Union collaborates closely with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), developing joint programmes for research, training and education.
IUBS maintains formal relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Union also works with the European Commission as well as numerous other organisations, agencies and foundations that are concerned with research and development related to the biological sciences.
