We are pleased to announce that IUBS is co-organizing a side event during the 27th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 27) in Panama.
📅 Date: 23 October
🕐 Time: 13:15
🔢 Side Event #: 6747
📍 Venue: Room Africa
This side event : “MOBILIZING SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT GBF IMPLEMENTATION ACTION” is co-organized by IUBS, UFZ, UNU-IAS Tokyo & UNESCO
One of the key outcomes from the VI Science-Policy Forum was the urgent need for enhanced scientific and technical cooperation, along with national commitments to improve the capacity, access and usage of spatial data, genetic information, modelling, and building scenarios for the future, for implementation of the GBF. It also highlighted the need for bridging silos among research communities to promote transformational changes. This requires also bringing the different knowledge systems together to build solutions.
The objective of the event is to keep mobilizing the scientific community to be more open and collaborative to generate knowledge and solutions innovatively using diverse knowledge, sciences and socio-cultural approaches to support implementation of multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), mainly directed towards the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity.
At this side event we will present a few examples on how bridging silos of knowledge can inform policy and action; we will also discuss some suggestions on how to further develop mechanism to, for instance, bring concepts across and implement the three Rio conventions (how to make accessible and equitable and operationalize data and knowledge to guide biodiversity action, strengthening capacities, scientific cooperation being translated into action, coping mostly with targets 20, 21, 22, 8, 11), involving not only scientists but also policy-makers, civil society, the private sector and local and indigenous communities voices.
