Profile

Dr. Le Kang is a CAS distinguished professor in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and focuses on the researches on ecological genomics and adaptation of insects. He serves as president of Beijing Institutes of Life Sciences (CAS) and Hebei University. He reveals the molecular mechanisms for phenotypic plasticity and adaptation of locusts at both genetic and epigenetic levels using interdisciplinary methods. His achievement has provided the scientific outlooks on locust biology, and crucial cues to develop novel control strategies against the swarming insects. Kang was elected member of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and foreign member or fellow from 7 countries and international academic organizations including US National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Dr. Kang published about 260 research articles in international peer-review journals with about 11,000 citations. His representative papers are published in Nature, Science, Science Advances, PNAS, Nature Communications, Genome Biology, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Global Change Biology, eLife, Cell Report, EMBO Report etc. Dr. Kang is a council member of International Congress of Entomology since 2008. He has been awarded numerous national and international awards.
