DESCRIPTION:IUBS is a sponsor of the 38th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Chemical Ecology to be held in Bangalore\, India from 23 to 27 July 2023 \nThe Organising Committee of ISCE 2023 is very happy to welcome you to the 38th Annual Conference of the International Society of Chemical Ecology which will be held in Bangalore between 23–27 July 2023. \nThis Conference is on the timely theme of Chemical Ecology in the Anthropocene. Given the impacts of climate change on human health\, safety\, and livelihoods\, the impact of climate change on the chemical ecology of species interactions across the kingdoms of life is equally important and less well understood. It is likely that climate change will affect not only viability of organisms but also chemical communication. For example\, the increase of oxidising agents in the atmosphere may reduce the half life of volatiles\, and remove important elements from chemical signals. How organisms may cope with this distortion in chemical signalling and whether there is redundancy built into chemical signalling is not at all understood. This field offers exciting challenges and problems that need urgent solution\, whether it be in crop pollination\, pest control\, soil fertility through mycorrhizal networks\, or aboveground–belowground feedback leading to plant productivity changes. Processes that influence planetary health in natural ecosystems are equally likely to be affected by urban and industrial run-off of atmospheric\, terrestrial and aquatic pollutants. Chemicals know no boundaries\, which makes it more imperative that we understand their impacts. \nWe hope that this conference will generate new ideas in the fundamental and applied aspects of chemical ecology\, and we are sure that your participation will make this conference vibrant. \nWe wish to ensure gender balance in our conference and also would like scientists and students to participate from all over the world. DESCRIPTION:Women’s involvement in Antarctic science has grown in recent decades\, with women now playing leading and influential roles in Antarctic research at all levels. Nonetheless\, significant barriers to gender equality still exist. Recognizing this\, as well as barriers faced by people of all historically excluded backgrounds\, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) established an Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Group (AG) in 2021. \nThis webinar\, organised by SCAR\, will therefore provide insights into the barriers faced by women and other marginalised groups from four different perspectives within polar research. DESCRIPTION:The 1st International Symposium of Wildlife Diseases Research Network (1st WDRN symposium) will be held at Haikou\, Hainan\, China\, during June 26-28\, 2023. DESCRIPTION:Fifth Science-policy Forum For Biodiversity And\n\n\n8th International Conference on Sustainability Science\n\n\nContributions from science to implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework Concept note\n\n\n11 December – 12 December\, 2022 \nThe purpose of the fifth Science-Policy Forum for Biodiversity and the eighth International Conference on Sustainability Science is to provide space for scientists\, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders the opportunity to discuss and make recommendations on how science\, technology and innovation can contribute to the effective implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. \nParticipants will share experiences\, exchange knowledge\, ideas and diverse perspectives\, showcase innovative solutions and tools for addressing technical issues and facilitating the implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Among those physiological mechanisms that were discovered by his team\, a major finding is the demonstration that male king penguins are able to preserve food for 2-3 weeks at 37°C in their stomach\, which allows them to feed the newly hatched chick if the female has been delayed. An antibiotic molecule is involved\, which appears of biomedical interest. Yvon Le Maho is an author/co-author of more than 300 scientific papers\, including 12 in Nature magazine and specialized Nature journals. \nRegistration here \n

DESCRIPTION:The International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) was established in 1919 as a non-governmental and non-profit organization comprising of National Academies and international scientific Associations and Societies. Since then IUBS is functioning as a global platform for scientists from all disciplines and nationalities for cooperation\, interaction and collaboration to promote research\, training\, and education in biological sciences. \nTo commemorate the completion of 100 years of promoting excellence in biological sciences\, IUBS has launched a Webinar Series bringing the best of all disciplines to discuss evolution\, taxonomy\, ecology\, biodiversity\, and other topics that represent unified biology and the topics of prime importance to address contemporary problems such as climate change\, endangered species\, food and nutrition\, health etc. \n \nThe third lecture in the IUBS Webinar Series will be delivered by Dr. Jane Goodall\, DBE\, on 27th April 2021\, at 1:30 pm GMT.  The title of the webinar is: “Gombe and Beyond”. An ethologist and environmentalist\, with ongoing research spanning more than six decades\, Dr. Goodall is a pioneer in studying the behavior\, social organization\, and cognitive abilities of chimpanzees. She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace. \nThe second lecture of the Webinar Series was delivered on 10th March 2021 by Sean B. SUMMARY:Organization of Fifth Science Policy Forum for Biodiversity
DESCRIPTION:The joint fifth Science-Policy Forum for Biodiversity and the eighth International Conference on Sustainability Science (ICSS 8) will include five virtual sessions to be held on 13\, 14\, 19\, 21 and 23 April 2021. The sessions will last up to 120 minutes\, starting at 6 am (Montreal Time). SUMMARY:IUBS scientists propose recommendations for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework
DESCRIPTION:Working with an international\, multidisciplinary team\, IUBS scientists have published an article in Science Advances: “Actions on sustainable food production and consumption for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.” The article reviews eight actions for addressing biodiversity loss in food systems – from removing incentives harmful to biodiversity to reducing food waste and promoting sustainable diets – and examines the challenges and opportunities of implementing the actions in the UK and Peru. \nThe article proposes targets for the UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
