DESCRIPTION:IUBS is pleased to support 18 early career researchers (ECRs) to attend the 7th International Conference on Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species in Plants\, taking place from 9–11 September 2026 in Granada\, Spain. \nThanks to an IUBS grant\, selected participants—including PhD students and postdoctoral fellows—will have the opportunity to engage with an international community of scientists working on the metabolism and signaling roles of key bioactive molecules in plants. \nThe conference will focus on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS)\, while also exploring related compounds such as hydrogen sulfide\, melatonin\, and a wide range of antioxidants including polyphenols\, flavonoids\, terpenoids\, anthocyanins\, carotenoids\, and vitamins. \nDesigned to foster a friendly and informal scientific environment\, the meeting emphasizes active participation through short 15-minute presentations\, enabling broader engagement—particularly for younger researchers presenting their work. \nThrough this initiative\, IUBS continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists\, facilitating knowledge exchange\, and advancing research in plant biology.

It also highlighted the need for bridging silos among research communities to promote transformational changes. At the beginning of autumn the same individuals make a return migration to their breeding grounds to reproduce and die. To make these incredible journeys\, we have discovered that Bogong moths rely on the stars and the Earth’s magnetic field as compasses to fly in their inherited migratory direction\, and a unique odour wafting from the cave that identifies the destination and provides a navigational beacon at the very end of their long journey. DESCRIPTION: The International Symposium on Ciliate Biology 2025 (ISCB 2025) \n6 & 7 February 2025\, New Delhi\, India & hybrid \nThe symposium is being organized by Acharya Narendra Dev College\, University of Delhi\, under the aegis of Indian Society of Ciliate Biology. \nThe main aim and objective of an International Symposium on Ciliate Biology is to bring together researchers\, scientists\, and experts from around the world to discuss and advance the understanding of ciliate biology. Specific objectives often include: \n1. Providing a platform for presenting and discussing the latest research findings related to ciliates\, including their diversity\, regeneration\, morphogenesis\, ecology\, phylogeny and cell membrane trafficking etc. \n2. Facilitating networking and collaboration among scientists from different disciplines and regions to promote interdisciplinary research and partnerships. \n3. Promoting interaction of school students and undergraduates with the eminent scientists of this field across the globe. \n4. Highlighting emerging trends\, new technologies\, and current challenges in the field of ciliate biology. \n5. Organizing pre-symposium workshops to train early-career researchers and school students in bioinformatics tools related to ciliate research. \nThis conference is sponsored by IUBS as part of its ongoing support for scientific events organized in IUBS member countries. Or a more accessible and more balanced world of mathematics\, made of diverse people cooperating\, of different backgrounds and making their way in a wide variety of manners? The alternative seems easy to settle. Let us talk about it!\nLéa Griton\, associate professor at Sorbonne University (Paris\, France) and researcher in astrophysics at Paris Observatoire PSL\nWriting a pop science astronomy book for everyone: questions I asked myself & answers I gave to others\nWhen Léa was solicited by Quanto/EPFL Press to write a book about scientific exploration of the Solar System\, the first thing that came to her mind was: why should I write a book? Writing a book is very time-consuming and\, as a young (mum and) scientist\, time is something rare and precious. However\, she also thought that\, when she was a teenager herself\, reading books about science helped a lot in deciding to pursue scientific studies. Moreover\, most of the popular science books she could read were written by men\, for instance Hubert Reeves or Jean-Pierre Luminet. She accepted to write the book as a challenge: how to write an astronomy book for men and women? why is it important? Given the impacts of climate change on human health\, safety\, and livelihoods\, the impact of climate change on the chemical ecology of species interactions across the kingdoms of life is equally important and less well understood. It is likely that climate change will affect not only viability of organisms but also chemical communication. For example\, the increase of oxidising agents in the atmosphere may reduce the half life of volatiles\, and remove important elements from chemical signals. How organisms may cope with this distortion in chemical signalling and whether there is redundancy built into chemical signalling is not at all understood. This field offers exciting challenges and problems that need urgent solution\, whether it be in crop pollination\, pest control\, soil fertility through mycorrhizal networks\, or aboveground–belowground feedback leading to plant productivity changes. Processes that influence planetary health in natural ecosystems are equally likely to be affected by urban and industrial run-off of atmospheric\, terrestrial and aquatic pollutants. Chemicals know no boundaries\, which makes it more imperative that we understand their impacts. \nWe hope that this conference will generate new ideas in the fundamental and applied aspects of chemical ecology\, and we are sure that your participation will make this conference vibrant. \nWe wish to ensure gender balance in our conference and also would like scientists and students to participate from all over the world. DESCRIPTION:Women’s involvement in Antarctic science has grown in recent decades\, with women now playing leading and influential roles in Antarctic research at all levels. Nonetheless\, significant barriers to gender equality still exist. Recognizing this\, as well as barriers faced by people of all historically excluded backgrounds\, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) established an Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Action Group (AG) in 2021. \nThis webinar\, organised by SCAR\, will therefore provide insights into the barriers faced by women and other marginalised groups from four different perspectives within polar research.
